Budapest History Museum comprises several museums like Aquincum Museum, Kiscelli Museum and the Royal Palace Museum. In 1896 the collection of the Aquincum Museum contained 3.734 items. By 1995 the total number of artifacts and historical documents reached 400.000 and classification of newer finds is a still ongoing project. The collection consists of finds from archaeological excavations, the oldest finds of the Museum date back more than 40.000 years. The collection contains thousands of items of fine art: Gothic carvings and altars, coins, guilds, paintings and old prints about the city, masterly creations of clock- and furniture-makers.
